Naomi Spitzer

Naomi Spitzer’s exciting watercolor and mixed media paintings flow with the beauty and magic of nature. The arts have always been a part of her life. The rhythm and harmony of colors and shapes found in her art are an expression of her music and design background. Her imaginative art twists and turns from the realistic to the abstract. Naomi enjoys abstracting reality.

Naomi likes the transparency that watercolor allows. She paints using both traditional watercolor paper, which absorbs the paint, as well as Yupo, which is a plastic paper that does not absorb the paint. She likes the patterns and textures the paint makes as the bold colors mix on the Yupo.

Previously a fiber artist, Naomi incorporates fabric in many of her mixed media work. She hand-paints most of her papers that have been, stamped, torn, textured and then layered to enhance the rhythm and movement in her paintings. Naomi’s desire in creating a painting is to convey her energy and excitement and evoke an emotional, thought provoking response from the viewer on their visual journey.

Living in Tucson, Az., Naomi is a Saguaro Fellow member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild (SAWG) and an Agave Signature member of the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona (CASA). Naomi has achieved the highest level in both organizations. She exhibits her art through these organizations and has won numerous awards. Naomi has had her own solo exhibits and has also been in group shows with Contempo Edge and the Abstract 5. She enjoys taking classes and workshops with local and national artists to learn and explore new paths for her art.
